ROCHESTER - August 19, 2018. Predeceased by his parents, John and Helen DeFrance; Wife, Elizabeth DeFrance; Son, Brian DeFrance; Brother, Kevin DeFrance and Mark DeFrance; Lov ing companion, Susan Campbell. Survived by Son, Ron DeFrance Jr. (Renae); Son, Darien De France; Daughter, Susan Ellis; Step-daughter Deborah (David) Pelusio; Step-sister, Charmaine DeFrance; Grandchildren; Sasha (Tony) Cirincione; Erin Ellis, Danielle (Nick) Scarfone; Lauren DeFrance, Calin DeFrance & Noel DeFrance; Great grandchildren and many dear friends.
Remembered in Rochester as a sportscaster, Ron’s career beginnings were in radio as morning DJ on WACK 1420 in Newark. Ron would go on to join Channel 13 for 14 years where he would perform many roles as Sports Director, anchored nightly sports casts, as well as TV announcer for Lancer soccer games and Red Wings Baseball. It is during this time he became widely known as announcer for “Bowling of Dollars” which held the title of highest rated local TV show. Ron would go on be Sports Director and sports anchor at channel 8 for four years. During his career Ron also worked behind the scenes as Account Executive for Fox TV and WHAM Radio, and Executive Director of Rochester Area Bowling Proprietors Association. Community involvement was also important to him as he served as Master of Ceremonies for many local charity and club events such as Rochester Press/Radio Club, Italian American Club and Rochester Boxing Hall of Fame. Ron served as Board member for Cystic Fibrosis and Monroe County Special Olympics. Ron’s community involvement has been honored at the Red Wings Walk of Fame, the Rochester Bowlers Hall of Fame and recently by the Rochester Lancers Wall of Fame.
