She grew up in a large family in the 19th Ward in Rochester, NY. After high school Janet married Walter to whom she was married for 35 years. They had 2 daughters, Heidi and Heather, who are both married now and provided them with grandchildren, Sol and London. Janet had very strong family values and instilled them in her daughters.

There was a point where Janet realized she wanted to become a nurse and completed training at Isabella Graham Hart School of Practical Nursing in 1996. She worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for 5 years, taking a break to be available to her daughters and family. After awhile, she felt the call to get back to nursing and earned an associates degree from Monroe Community College to become a Registered Nurse. Graduating from nursing school and working in the field were big achievements for Janet. She went on to work at Strong Memorial Hospital as an RN, starting on a general medical floor, eventually moving on to the Cardiac floor. Janet was passionate about caring for her patients at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Traveling and experiencing new things was a favorite pastime of Janet’s, often traveling with family and friends. She had been to Ireland 3 times, she loved going to Mexico, Scotland, Hawaii and several other states in the U.S. She and her family also visited Old Forge where she liked to hike. She enjoyed climbing Bald Mountain where she often felt a spiritual presence, making her feel peace and not alone.

Janet liked to try to garden, though admittedly she wasn’t always successful. Her musical tastes were classical, modern country, Phil Collins and Dave Matthews. Her favorite movie was "Chocolat." She also was fascinated by butterflies and their symbol of strength through metamorphosis.

Janet enjoyed decorating her home, refinishing furniture, painting and creating centerpieces, wedding bouquets, and other items for family members at special events.

What defined Janet the most was her life dedicated to nursing and being a mother and grandmother. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
