Helen was born in Santa Monica, California in 1961.Her family moved to Titusville, Fl a few years after she was born and 10 years later they made the move to Rochester, NY. Her and her brother and sisters spent many of their formative years in Penfield, NY. As a young adult, Helen may have been described by her siblings as the “wild child.” She was talented at pushing her mother’s buttons. She also tormented her younger sister Rose, though this sibling rivalry developed into a true friendship in later years. As a young person she held a job delivering newspapers in her Penfield townhome complex.
After acquiring an Associates Degree at Monroe Community College she held a variety professional positions: Kodak (22 years); Pre-Paid Legal Associate (5 years); Wegmans (7 years); Kodak Alaris (2 years).
Helen was married to Tom in Cancun, Mexico in May of 2001, renewing their vows in a ceremony in Rochester in June of the same year. They met on the volleyball court at Bathtub Billy’s. Helen was very supportive of Tom’s daughters, Carolyn & Catherine.
She often took risks and lived her life to the fullest. Helen had a love for Monte Carlo cars and VW Bugs and also enjoyed a good root beer float. She loved animals, and in her youth she had a pet bunny named Emily and a pet parakeet. As she got older, she found joy spending time with her cats, Abigail, Duncan, Gizmo, Widget, and more recently, Cali, and Colby. She loved her birthday, May 5th, which also happened to be Cinco de Mayo, one of her favorite holidays to celebrate. Tom & Helen frequently traveled to Cancun, Key West and New Orleans.
Helen had many interests that brought her happiness. She kept the house warm with her cooking, and among other things, she made family favorites like macaroni and cheese, cranberry relish, lasagna, and her much requested macaroni salad. She and Tom worked together to host numerous holiday meals and gatherings at their home. Helen also very much enjoyed gardening and listening to country music. Her musical interests evolved from The Beach Boys as a teenager to country music in recent years. In particular, she enjoyed listening to Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton, Kenny Chesney, Jason Aldean, Tim McGraw, and Brad Paisley.
Helen also enjoyed binge watching Netflix shows with Tom, watching NCIS and Law & Order. Helen frequently played cell phone games like "Words with Friends" and "Yahtzee." She went on motorcycle rides and to rallies across the country with Tom and their friends. Destination travel to warm beaches for a vacation and playing golf were passions of hers.
One of her favorite quotes when introducing herself was “Hi, my name is Helen, there’s a lot of Hell-in-Me, so don’t forget it.” Helen lived life to the fullest, and she was willing to try anything. She had a great way of making people laugh, and she was able to help Tom stop and listen using just the inflection in her voice as she spoke his name. Helen was loved by so many. She had an outward personality, making friends wherever she went. She also had patience and the ability to bring calmness to any situation.
Family and friends are invited to gather from 4-8pm on Thursday, November 9th at the funeral home, 1411 Vintage Lane. Her celebration of life will be held at 10am on Friday, November 10th at Lakeshore Community Church, 3651 Latta Rd, Rochester, NY 14612.
